I'm afraid of people on the sidewalk...and in the supermarket.....and in the parks. Well, not afraid exactly, but there's a level of tension about proximity that never existed before. I don't know about you, but I find it exhausting.
In an effort to protect us at home, and out of regard for my clients, I have done very little shooting this year, and any client work has involved either products, or distanced portraits outside. A trend in our house, and maybe yours too, is to order 'stuff' online. Sadly, the perfect no-contact world for these times.
How does a photographer go about transitioning to an online business model? Well in my case, I have about 50,000 images captured in my travels over the years, and it is relatively easy to make them available through print-on-demand outfits who will ship directly to customers. You can see the link to my Fine Art America site https://bj-clayden.pixels.com/ in the menu above. I also have work on a Canadian site in Montreal which seems to be popular and affordable. https://www.pictorem.com/profi...
But the returns are slow, and the competition for eyeballs is daunting, and I'll be a doddering old guy before they produce consistent results, so its a long game approach. Looking at trends though, people are definitely shopping at home, talking about where they're going to travel when restrictions are lifted, and most importantly for me........they're looking forward to getting out of their sweats and pyjamas and buying new outfits. Bingo!!!! Wearable art!!
Thanks to Instagram, and actually having the time now to read posts, I found a Montreal company, Le Galeriste, that has taken my files and applied them to various clothing designs. They're actually pretty impressive if I do say so myself, although people who have know me for a long time would be very puzzled to see me involved in the fashion business. I can't even choose a tie by myself.
Have a look at
https://www.legaleriste.com/en... and have a browse when you have a few minutes. I would love to hear your opinions.
And while you're there, why not treat yourself to a new outfit for your upcoming vacation?? We all hope that's coming sooner than later.
Stay well, my friends
